Thursday, May 13th: Poetry Flash presents Joanne Kyger & Anne Valley-FoxJoanne Kyger has been a key figure straddling a number of poetry movements from the San Francisco Renaissance to the Black Mountain Poets to the Beats. Robert Creeley has said of her, "There is no poet with more whimsically tough a mind." Author of some thirty books of poetry and prose, including Japan and India Journals, As Ever: Selected Poems, and About Now: Collected Poems, she, herself, has said about her writing, "I want bullet-like speed and precision to show that this mind connects in ways of delight, and also says truth way beyond this individual voice." New Mexico poet Anne Valley-Fox's new book of poems is How Shadows Are Bundled. Nathaniel Tarn says, "These poems, while deeply anchored in New Mexico reality, reach out in long, loping elegant lines across the continent from California to Maine. . .There is a novel inside each poem. . . ." Author of three previous books of poems, she is also co-author of Your Mythic Journey and co-editor of Outlaws and Desperados, both nonfiction. |
