Thursday, September 16th: Poetry Flash presents Susan Browne & Alison LutermanSusan Browne's new book is Zephyr, winner of the Editor's Prize at Steel Toe Books. Her poetry has appeared in 180 More: Extraordinary Poems for Everyday, edited by Billy Collins. Her awards include prizes from the Chester H. Jones Foundation, the National Writer's Union, the Los Angeles Poetry Festival, and the River Styx International Poetry Contest. Her first book, Buddha's Dogs, was selected as winner of The Four Way Books Prize by Edward Hirsch. She has a word/music CD with poet Kim Addonizio, Swearing, Smoking, Drinking, & Kissing, available from cdbaby.com . Her poems have recently appeared on Garrison Keillor's Writer's Almanac. Alison Luterman's new book of poems, her second, is See How We Almost Fly, winner of the 2008 pearl Poetry Prize, selected by Gerald Locklin. Ellen Bass calls it, "a delight. Alison Luterman, like the beings who inhabit her poems, has found a way to love this complicated, painful, and wondrous world. . .These are poems of resilience and redemption, poems that open the heart." Her first collection, The Largest Possible Life, won the Cleveland State University Poetry Prize. She's also a playwright and an essayist.
