Pink box containing seven pamphlets bound by pink ribbons, 16 cm, with a small frontispiece illustration of the estate's piazza and two other black & white illustrations in the text. Contents: Preface, Foreword, I: Visitors March 18 to Dec. 3first, 1830; II: Visitors Jan. 6 to Dec. 31, 1831; III: Visitors Jan. 1 to Dec. 30, 1832; IV: Visitors Jan 3, 1833 to April 22, 1834, Index, Explanatory Notes. These chronicles reprinted and published by descendants of the famous hosts and hostesses at 'Eleutherian Mills'. The notes describe the meaning of many of the entries, including historical and genealogical information on prominent guests. Tancopanican is a native American word which means, in part, 'on the river bank. ' Very good condition but for edges of some ribbons slightly frayed. Box in very good condition aside from some minor soiling, fading, and with some slight wear to edges.
