Full leather, 27 cm., The second edition with frontispiece and fold out map intact. Several hundred pages on the history of Portuguese Asia and the discovery of India before the epic poem. Leather is tree calf, spine is labeled Mickle's Lusiad and the front board is held by two cords of three. Pencil inscription on front end paper dated 1830. Original subscribers to this work included Oliver Goldsmith, David Garrick, Dr. Johnson, Mrs. Thrale and James Boswell. A much anticipated work by one of the first Anglo Portuguese scholars.
