Rebound in blue leather boards, with marbled endpapers. Three volumes comprise the "United States Japan Expedition." The first two are of the Perry expedition compiled by Francis L. Hawks and is heavily illustrated. It is is missing the original suppressed bathing plate, but has a photographic replacement. Volume two has 17 large foldout maps and charts. Volume three is :Observations of The Zodiacal Light, from April 2, 1853, to April 22, 1855, Made Chiefly on Board The united States Steam-Frigate Mississippi, during her late cruise in astern Seas, and her voyage homeward, with Conclusions from the Data thus Obtained" by Rev. George Jones, with illustrations of the night sky. Pages tanned from age, with some staining and foxing. Small bookplare inside each cover. Overall in very good shape.
