An important book in the history of microscopy; the first part part provides an "Historical Introduction" from the "Earliest Times" through 1673, and the second provides descriptive "Catalogues of Instruments and Accessories". Replete with illustrations, with thirty-two in Part I and thirty pages of plates in Part II, many with more than a single illustration or photograph on each plate.

Good condition. Corners are lightly bumped with minimal rubbing. Some wear to the binding, including the head and tail of the spine (with the cloth beginning to fray), a very small tear to the cloth in the middle of the front hinge, and some light creases to the structure of the front board and spine. Spine is discolored, but text is legible. strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings.
