Bookplate inside front cover is James Burrow, who was the legal reporter of the Inner Temple in the 1700s. For a time he was president of the Royal Society. As vice president, Burrows was involved in the organizing of the observation of the Transit of Venus, and signing the Articles of Agreement between the Council of the Royal Society and Mr Charles Mason and Mr Jeremiah Dixon for their expedition to Bencoolen in the Island of Sumatra (they would be better known for the demarcation between North and South during the Civil War.).
