Editors Jim Cory and Jamie Townsend will read from two new, posthumously published books by San Francisco poets Karl Tierney (1956-1995) and Steve Abbott (1943-1992), both lost to AIDS. The selection in Tierney's Have You Seen This Man?, newly out by Sibling Rivalry Press, provides ironic, up-close takes on life in the Castro during the AIDS crisis that killed 20,000 people, mostly gay men, in San Francisco. Beautiful Aliens: A Steve Abbott Reader, recently issued by Night Boat Press, resurrects the work of poet, author, cartoonist and highly regarded editor (of Poetry Flash and SOUP Magazine) Steve Abbott, a hero of Gay Liberation and Bay Area underground writing. Besides reading from these new books, Cory and Townsend will talk about how the books came together and answer questions.
